IF MY LOVE WERE ENOUGH: A POEM FOR MY CHILD FROM TRAUMA

If My Love Were Enough

A warm embrace wouldn't burn your skin,

you'd feel safe in every fiber of your being,

vinegar would no longer spew from within,

you'd stop fighting -- stop fleeing.

You wouldn't be out of control,

my calm would be your calm,

peace would overwhelm your soul,

you'd know the Father who holds you in his palm.

You'd stop trying to give your pain away,

you'd believe me when I say I love you,

you'd laugh and run and play all day,

our family would be all you knew.

If my love were enough,

you wouldn't have to be so tough.
